Privacy Policy
App: OCR Tool – Image to Text (Android) · Developer: IrfanEdu · Effective date: 18 October 2026
This policy explains what information the OCR Tool – Image to Text app (“the app”, “we”) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The app turns images, handwriting and scanned PDFs into text.
1. No account
You can use the app without signing up. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or any other personal details. The app does not access your contacts, microphone or location, and it has no camera permission: photos are taken through your phone’s own camera app or Google’s document scanner, and images are picked through the Android photo picker, so the app only sees the files you choose.
2. Your images, PDFs and text stay on your phone
- On-device processing. Text recognition (OCR), handwriting recognition and searchable PDF creation run on your phone using Google ML Kit. The images, PDFs, handwriting and recognised text you work with are not uploaded to us or to any server by the app.
- We have no server. We do not receive, store or have access to your documents or their text.
- Files you save. Text files and PDFs you choose to download are saved to your phone’s Downloads/OCR Tool folder, where they stay until you delete them. You can open, share or delete them from “My Files”.
- Sharing. Text or files leave the app only when you choose to copy or share them, and then go only to the app you pick.
3. Information collected by third-party services
- Advertising (Google AdMob). The app shows banner, interstitial and rewarded video ads through Google AdMob. Google may collect your device’s advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, approximate location derived from the IP address, and how you interact with ads. This is used to show, measure and limit ads and to prevent fraud. Where required (for example in the EEA and UK) the app asks for your consent through Google’s consent message before any personalised ads are shown. Learn more in How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- Google ML Kit and Google Play services. Some language models (Chinese, Japanese, Korean OCR and the on-screen handwriting language packs) and the document scanner are downloaded and provided by Google Play services. ML Kit may send Google diagnostic and usage information (such as device and app information, performance and error data) to keep these features working and improve them. This does not include your images or recognised text. See ML Kit terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Language data downloads. For languages such as Urdu, Arabic, Bengali, Tamil, Russian or Thai, the app downloads the open-source Tesseract language data file once, from GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com), the first time you use that language. Only the language file is requested; your images and text are never sent. GitHub, like any web server, receives your IP address with the request. Recognition then runs on your device.
- Emails you send us. If you contact us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply to you.
4. Information stored on your device
- Your settings, such as the chosen OCR language.
- The list of files you saved, shown in “My Files”.
- Temporary working copies of images and PDFs while they are being processed.
Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes all of this. Files already saved to your Downloads folder stay until you delete them.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your information. Information is shared only with the service providers named above (Google AdMob for ads, Google ML Kit / Google Play services for on-device recognition features), who process it under their own privacy policies, or when required by law.
6. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your choices
- You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your Android settings (Google → Ads / Privacy → Ads).
- You can change your ad consent choice where the app offers it.
- You can delete saved files from “My Files” or your Downloads folder at any time.
- You can ask us to delete any email you sent us.
8. Security
Your documents are processed on your device and are not sent over the internet by the app. Ad and Google Play services traffic uses encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the information we handle.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
